Everyone does hauls, but you never see the follow up! What do people get ride of and why? Since I am trying to spend less, and spend better when I do, I thought this might give everyone a perspective on my current wardrobe mind set, and maybe help you make decisions on what you want to keep and get rid of in your own closet! If you happen to love any of these items I will very likely have them listed in my Poshmark closet, so be sure to check it out if you want to score a good deal since I tend to price super low just to get an item out of my life faster instead of making the most money possible, haha!
I love this when I got it! I believe it was brand new with tags when I spotted it across the room at Uptown Cheapskate on a display. I definitely insisted they take it off the mannequin so I could try it on, and it was true love. And I wore it may times. And then, I dunno, I just was over the style. I bought this about 2 or 3 years ago and since then my style has shifted towards more classic and less fussy. Translation: no more casual neck ruffles for me.
Looking at this you would think I would love it! And you are right! I love… looking at it, haha. But never seem to yearn to wear it. I have had it for over 6 months and have maybe worn it once. I think I just wanted it so badly to be a thin jean jacket, and it isn’t. Good thing I also got this at Uptown Cheapskate so I feel less guilty about those dollars wasted.
Confession: I bought this in an effort to embrace the “leggings as pants” type styles but with thicker real pants. Yep, it’s brand new with tags. Yep, I never wore it. Yep, I think it’s because I am a snob and feel chiffon is “below” me. At least I know that polyester is not something in this form that I like to feel. Lesson learned. Hope someone who loves chiffon and leggings finds this in my Poshmark because it is totally perfect for someone with that style! 🙂
Another one that still has tags… I bought this about 3 months ago with the intention of adding it to my workwear. As a sweater I should have reached for it over the fall and winter. Did I? Nope! Did I ever even consider this one over other sweaters? Nope! Only when I thought “maybe I should wear that since I haven’t worn it yet…” but not in a “ooh can’t wear to wear this brand new item” way. Lesson learned.
Another item that looks like my style… but doesn’t feel like my style. I loved the pattern of this material but it just felt too stiff for how I like to feel when wearing button downs. Soft button downs exist, or can exist after a few washes. Not with this shirt! It has a linen feel without being linen, which just doesn’t work for me.
6. Ralph Lauren Spring Green Cotton Cable Crew Neck Sweater
I loved this for about 2 years. And then I discovered that I am really a v-neck girl, and I would enjoy a cotton cable sweater in another color. However, I would never buy one knowing I already had this one, so goodbye this goes! I am happy to live with the “hole” in my closet while I wait to find a bright cotton cable sweater that speaks strongly to me.
There you have it! A nice 6 item un-haul, haha! Proudly I can say I have only added a few items to my closet since January 1st, and have removed more than just these 6 items. Woo hoo, progress towards owning less, but owning better! Curious to know what has made the cut as being worthy to buy in 2015? Here you go:
1. Kate Spade Grove Court Lainey Handbag in Black $428 (Bought on sale for only $170.31 total!). No longer available on Kate Spade, but the Ceder Street Elissa is similar and less expensive, or you can buy the Lainey on Amazon for about 40% off.
2. J Crew No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double Serge Wool in Black $130 (I got it for $66)
3. J Crew Tilly Sweater in Hthr Aqua $75 (I got it for about $56)
4. J Crew Vintage Cotton V-Neck Tee in French Lavender $29.50 (I got it for about $22)
5. J Crew School Boy Blazer in Black $198 (I got it for $106.80)
See! Only 5 items! So proud of myself, haha. They may be pricier but I am ok with that but I am so satisfied with these items and haven’t felt that strong of an urge to buy anything else, woo hoo! What are you recent un-hauled items?
